1.Describe the relationship between Kevin and Brian.
ReplyDeleteKevin and Brian are both Catholic boys but their point of views and characters are totally different. Kevin is more reasonable than Brian and finds the civil war meaningless but Brian is always ready to fight and he likes guns and danger. This is the biggest conflict between them. On the other hand, they are old and close friends. They like each other but sometimes they can’t understand their thoughts and don’t share the same feelings. For instance, Brian thinks that all the Protestants should die. As Sadie is a Protestant girl, I’m pretty sure that Kevin disagrees with this idea.
2.Why does Brian want to see Kevin in Chapter 6?
Brian wants to see Kevin because he wants to share his exciting secret with him. He shows Kevin his rifle and its ammunition that he hides under his bed. Kevin finds this very dangerous as the soldiers search Catholic’s houses constantly.
3.Describe the conflict between Kevin and Brian? Do you think it will ever
resolve? Why or why not?
Although Brian believes that they should fight for one Ireland and for their freedom, Kevin thinks that enough people have already been killed so he doesn’t eager to fight violently. As a result of his negative decision, Brian calls Kevin a traitor and accuses him not being a real patriot. Kevin doesn’t care these accuses as his sister, Brede almost got killed in a fight years ago so he is aware of that this is not a game, it’s a life and death issue. Kevin and Brian are both Catholic boys but their point of views and characters are totally different. Kevin is more reasonable than Brian and finds the civil war meaningless but Brian is always ready to fight and he likes guns and danger. So I don’t think that this conflict will resolve unless Kevin joins IRA like Brian because they are old friends and at the end of the day Kevin may accept his old friend’s suggestion if things get worse and if he doesn’t see a better solution. I hope it won’t be happen!
